The Money Group
Money is the symbol of economy. Money has no internal value. It is used as a representation of the general wealth of a nation, and is thus completely transparent. The amount of value a single note holds changes on an increasingly temporary basis and so, in comparison with other notes, 1 never truly equals 1. This is the Flüschtig nature of money.
But for something so transparent, the symbol of money has so much impact on the world. It is the bearer of violence and the provider of prosperity. Is this because money is the representation of the ever-shifting struggle between us as humans and cultures? Or is this impact an example of how deeply we hold our own ideals? These are the questions that "die Flüchtigkeit" of Money' asks of the viewer.
Because the project is "flüchtig" in nature, no statements are made toinform the viewer of exactly what money is. Rather, a series of progressive images dealing with the history and impact of money and economy on the world culture will be displayed, forcing the viewer to deal with the images in his or her own context, and based on his or her own experiences. And because the project deals with money on the level of individual perspective, no viewer will come to exactly the same conclusion as the next. The basis of conclusion is as shifting as the nature of money.
"Die Flüchtigkeit" of Money consists of two separate components: audio and image. The audio track will representatively consist of the dynamic range of impact money might have on an individual, a culture, or a world. A series of monitors will serve to display images which evoke
various contexts and impacts that money and economy brings along with itself. In the end, the audio and video elements serve as a stimulus to provoke the viewer to consider the "flüchtige"nature of money.
